พระ (prá, “honorific”, literally “divine; excellent; holy; sacred; etc”) +‎ คุณ (kun, “excellence, goodness; favour, kindness; morality, virtue; etc”). Compare Chinese 圣恩 (shèng'ēn); Khmer ព្រះគុណ (prĕəhkun).
