Etymology

Possibly from Old Khmer smāka (to want, to wish, to desire; to act at will, to be voluntary, to volunteer; to be harmonious, in accord, in unison, or united). Compare Sanskrit समग्र (samagra, complete; full), Pali samagga (idem). Cognate with Modern Khmer ស្ម័គ្រ (smak), Lao ສະໝັກ (sa mak).
