Etymology 1

Uncertain. Possibly from Old Khmer sāhāva (“reckless, wild, violent; cruel, mean, brutal”).[1] Also believed to be from สาม (sǎam, “three”) +‎ หาว (hǎao, “breath”, air exhaled; instance of exhalation), literally “three breaths”, possibly referring to the behaviour of Hanuman, a monkey in the epic Rammakian who breathes moons and stars.[2]
