Etymology
Orthographic borrowing from Burmese ဟံသာဝတီ (hamsawa.ti), from Pali haṃsāvatī (literally “she who has swans”), from the legend that two swans were seen at the place by Gautama Buddha, who then gave a prophecy that a city would be established there.
