From Proto-Tai *ʰmanᴬ (sterile).[1]

Cognate with Isan หมัน, Lao ໝັນ (man), Northern Thai ᩉ᩠ᨾᩢᩁ (man¹), Khün ᩉ᩠ᨾᩢᩁ (man¹), ᦖᧃ (ṁan), Tai Dam ꪢꪽ (măn), Shan မၼ် (mǎn), Tai Nüa ᥛᥢᥴ (mán), Zhuang maen.
