เหลน

Thai

Etymology

From Proto-Tai *ʰlenꟲ (great-grandchild).[1] Southwestern Tai languages have tone A such as Thai เหลน [leːnᴬ¹] probably due to contamination from Proto-Tai *ʰlaːnᴬ (grandchild).[2]

In Southwestern Tai, cognate with Lao ເຫຼນ (nrē) or ເຫຼັນ (len), ᦜᦲᧃ (l̇iin), Shan လိၼ် (lǐn).

In Northern Tai, cognate with Zhuang laenj.
