Etymology

རྗེ (rje, lord, master, ruler) +‎ བླས (blas), where བླས (blas) is an ancient form of modern ལས (las, work, deed). For the loss of the labial consonant, compare དཀའ་ལས (dka' las), pronounced /kap⁵ lɛ⁵⁵/ in Ngari Tibetan and /kʰalas/ in Balti.[1]
