From Proto-Lolo-Burmese *Nkrit (“to grind”), from Proto-Tibeto-Burman *kriːt (“to grind”); cognate with Jingpho [script needed] (krit, “to grind, gnash (teeth)”) (STEDT), while Luce 1981 adduces no further cognates.

The "run over" and "do all-out" senses are grouped with the "grind" sense by MED, which appears reasonable as semantic extensions.
