စ့

S'gaw Karen

Etymology

Cognate with Eastern Pwo စေဝ် (cì̱), Western Pwo စ့ၩ. Luce (1985) suggests a connection with Austroasiatic (whence Pa'o ရွဉ် (rə̀n)); compare, for example, Mon သြန် (sɔn). Luangthongkum (2019) does not consider the S'gaw and Pa'o forms connected.
