ပယင်း
Burmese
Etymology
According to MED, borrowed from Pali piyaṅga, though such a term is not listed in the Pali-English Dictionary. The Pali term appears to possibly stem from the Sanskrit root पी (pī, “to fatten”), with semantic shift "fat" > "yellow" > "yellow mineral"; for a semantic parallel from this root, compare perhaps Sanskrit पीत (pīta, “yellow”).
