မျက်လွှာ
Burmese
Etymology
မျက်- (myak-, “pertaining to the eyes”) + လွှာ (hlwa), with the second syllable လွှာ (hlwa) invoking either the sense of "thin layer" (MED) or a separate sense, found only in this compound, from a Proto-Tibeto-Burman *s-lwa (“skin”) (STEDT) (though it is possible that "skin" is equivalent to "thin layer" etymologically).
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /mjɛʔl̥wà/
- Romanization: MLCTS: myakhlwa • ALA-LC: myakʻlvhā • BGN/PCGN: myethlwa • Okell: myeʔhlwa
