မျက်လွှာ

Burmese

Etymology

မျက်- (myak-, pertaining to the eyes) +‎ လွှာ (hlwa), with the second syllable လွှာ (hlwa) invoking either the sense of "thin layer" (MED) or a separate sense, found only in this compound, from a Proto-Tibeto-Burman *s-lwa (skin) (STEDT) (though it is possible that "skin" is equivalent to "thin layer" etymologically).
