წიბ

Bats

Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Nakh [Term?]. Cognates include Chechen цӏӯ (cʼuu) and Ingush цӏув (cʼuv).

  • Kakashvili (2022)[1] indicates in her dictionary that this wordform is present in the work of Schiefner (1856).[2] However, this was not confirmed upon verification.
  • Starostin (2007)[3] gives the Bats wordform წიჲბ (c̣iyb), but he does not indicate the source. The following sources have been verified: Desheriev (1953),[4] Kadagidze (1984),[5] Bertlani (2019).[6] Unfortunately, the source could not be found as of July 26, 2025.
