Inherited from Proto-Austroasiatic *bnɨm (hill; mound). Cognate with Semelai bnʉm, Koho bönöm (mountain) and Santali ᱵᱩᱱᱩᱢ (bunum, termite hill, white ant hill). Possibly related to Vietnamese nấm (mound).
