ᨭ

ᨭ (ṭa)

1. The 19th letter and 11th consonant of the Tai Tham Pali alphabet. In Pali it represents the voiced, unaspirated retroflex consonant /ʈ/, written <ṭ> in the Roman script.
   • Pali ᨣᨶ᩠ᨵᨠᩩᨭᩥ (gandhakuṭ'i, “fragrant room”)
   • Northern Thai ᨠᩫ᩠ᨭᩉ᩠ᨾᩣ᩠ᨿ (kòtmǎai, “law”)

In the modern vernacular languages, the letter represents the plain dental consonant /t/. The distinction between ᨭ and ᨲ is purely etymological.
