Usage notes
In the modern vernacular languages, Northern Thai, Tai Lü and Tai Khün, this letter generally represents the voiceless dental consonant /t/. For these three languages, the graphic contrast between ᨲ and ᨴ represents a distinction of tone.
In Lao, this letter represents the aspirated voiceless dental consonant /tʰ/. For this language, the graphic contrast between ᨳ and ᨴ represents a distinction of tone.
