ἀκέων

Ancient Greek

Etymology

Participle of a hypothetical verb *ἀκέω (*akéō). Beekes relates this form to ἀκή (akḗ, silence), but not much is clear otherwise concerning its etymology. Not related to ἀκούω (akoúō, to hear), nor to ἄκων (ákōn, javelin). The alpha here is not the alpha privative ἀ- (a-).
