From ἀνήρ (anḗr, man) +‎ -ῐᾱ́ς (-ĭā́s). Cognate with Mycenaean Greek 𐀀𐀇𐀪𐀊𐀳 (a-di-ri-ja-te), 𐀀𐀇𐀪𐀊𐀠 (a-di-ri-ja-pi).
