ἄπαστον
Ancient Greek
Alternative forms
- ἀπασιτόν (apasitón)
Etymology
Uncertain, but possibly from ἄπαστος (ápastos, “fasting”). Otherwise, maybe of Semitic origin, compare Arabic حَبَّسَ (ḥabbasa, “to imprison”), Hebrew חָבַשׁ (ḥāḇaš, “to bind, tie”) and Safaitic [script needed] (ḥabīsat, “enclosure”).
