Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *dens- (“to learn”), found also in διδάσκω (didáskō, “to teach”). Cognates include Avestan 𐬛𐬍𐬛𐬀𐬌𐬣𐬵𐬉 (dīdaiŋ́hē) (< *di-dens-h₂ey), Sanskrit दस्र (dasrá, “effecting miracles”).[1]
