Etymology

A hypostasis *ἐν-γνύ-α (*en-gnú-a, “place in the knee”). The stem ἰγνύς (ignús) was formed after ἰξύς (ixús, “waist, loins”) and ὀσφῦς (osphûs, “hips or loins”).
