  1. (editorial mark) The obelus, a marginal editorial mark used to mark dubious or spurious passages, similar to the diple periestigmene ⟨⸖⟩.

Usage notes

The obelus was used especially in editions of Homer to indicate that a line may not have been written by Homer.

A closing mark such as a reversed obelus might mark the end of the dubious passage.
