Etymology

From お (o, honorific marker) + 大(だい)事(じ) (daiji, “important”) + に (ni, particle for direction); shortened from expressions such as お大(だい)事(じ)になさってください (o daiji ni nasatte kudasai, “Please take care of yourself”).
