Etymology

Originally a trademark, based on the Orbis line of automated cameras developed by US-based manufacturer LTV, Inc.,[1][2] itself from Latin orbis. Later used as a general term for all automatic speed enforcement cameras in Japan, regardless of manufacturer. Compare with googling, xeroxable, and kleenex in English.
