ラインナップ
Japanese
Alternative forms
- ラインアップ (rain'appu), ライナップ (rainappu)
Etymology
Borrowed from English lineup, with the /n/ in English line carried over to the next syllable (in the alternative form ラインアップ (rain'appu), this does not happen). Also see クリーンナップ (kurīnnappu) and サンノゼ (Sannoze) for other gairaigo like this, and 反応 (hannō), 輪廻 (rinne), and the 三位 (sanmi) in 三位一体 (sanmi-ittai) for examples of this tendency with earlier Sino-Japanese borrowings, where it is called 連声 (renjō).
Pronunciation
Noun
