Etymology
Attested in the Book of Song as the Early Middle Chinese transcription 可寒 (khaX han), in the fragment 處可寒 (*čʰo qaɣan, “you khagan”), and likely of Xianbei origin.[1] Cognate with Middle Mongol ᠬᠠᠭᠠᠨ (qaɣan).
