When used to modify another noun, 市内 either takes the possessive particle の (no) as in 市内の学校 (shinai no gakkō, “intracity schools, the schools in a city”), or it is prefixed directly in a compound, as in 市内電車 (shinai densha, “tram, streetcar”, literally “municipal or intracity train”).
