Etymology

御(み)影(かげ) (Mikage, “one of neighborhoods in Kobe”) + 石(いし) (ishi, “stone”); because this kind of stone had been quarried from Mt. Rokko, Kobe and been carried out from the port of Mikage nearby in the early modern times.
