Etymology

From punning on 放(ほう)射(しゃ)能(のう) (hōshanō, “radioactivity”), replacing 能(のう) (nō, “ability”) with 脳(のう) (nō, “brain”). Its suffix 脳 may be influenced of ゲーム脳(のう) (gēmu nō, “game brain”). Coined during Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in 2011.
