Etymology
Possibly from Pali garuḷa, from Sanskrit गरुड (garuḍa). The Sanskrit ṭ ~ ḍ > ḷ > l reflexes were productive in both Middle Indic languages and early Chinese Buddhist lexicon. (Ji, 1998v4)
