Etymology

From ꯂꯤ (li, cane) +‎ ꯔꯨꯡ (rung, frame), the first element of which is from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *tV-lij. Cognate with S'gaw Karen ချံၣ် (khleè, bow), Naxi leemei (longbow), Jingpho kung-li (bow), Limbu li.
