Etymology 2
Equivalent to Ancient Greek κῶας (kôas, “fleece”) with a different suffix, ultimately borrowed from an Anatolian language, probably early Carian κόον or κοῖον (or its ancestor, or a close relative such as Lycian), in any case derived from Proto-Anatolian *Hṓwis (“sheep”), from Proto-Indo-European *Hówis.
