Ventris (1973) concluded the connection of 'fig' to the syllable ni was likely from Minoan. Neumann (1957) had read it as related to Ancient Greek ฮฝฮนฮบฯฮปฮตฮฟฮฝ (nikรบleon, โsp. figโ), which has a Pre-Greek origin.
