Ventris (1973) concluded the connection of 'fig' to the syllable ni was likely from Minoan. Neumann (1957) had read it as related to Ancient Greek ฮฝฮนฮบฯฮปฮตฮฟฮฝ (nikรบleon, โ€œsp. figโ€), which has a Pre-Greek origin.
