Etymology
Inherited from Proto-Turkic *biti- (“to write”), itself generally thought to be from Middle Chinese 筆 (MC pit, “writing brush”). Cognate with Old Uyghur 𐽼𐽶𐾀𐽶𐽹𐽰𐽷 (pytymʾk /biti-/, “to write”), Karakhanid [script needed] (biti-, “to write”), Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (biti-, “to be destined”), Northern Altai битиерге (bitiyerge, “to write”).
