Prakrit
Etymology
Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit ๐๐บ๐๐๐บ (kiแนci), from Sanskrit เคเคฟเคเคเคฟเคฆเฅ (kiแนcid). Outside of Romani and Sinhalese, descendants indicate a late (Proto-New Indo-Aryan) pronunciation as *๐๐บ๐๐ผ (*kichu) or *๐๐๐ผ (*kachu). Most likely, this is a univerbation of ๐๐บ๐๐๐บ (kiแนci), an emphatic in ๐ณ๐บ (hi), and the masculine nominative singular marker -๐ (-u), with spurious simplifications due to this word's commonality. On the usage of the emphatic marker in indefinite pronouns, compare Hindi เคเคญเฅ (kabhฤซ, โsometimesโ) from เคเคฌ (kab, โwhenโ).
