1. present-tense marker for verbs.

• Verbs of class 6 and class 7 (see Template:ta-conj-auto) geminate this marker into -க்கிறு- (-kkiṟu-) instead.
• In Spoken Tamil, this marker is shortened or outright dropped.
  • eg., ‎வரு (varu) + ‎-கிறு- (-kiṟu-) + ‎-அது (-atu) → ‎வருகிறது (varukiṟatu, “It is coming”) becomes

  "வருது (varutu)" (By surface analysis, வரு (varu) +‎ -து (-tu))

  • or, ‎பண்ணு (paṇṇu) + ‎-கிறு- (-kiṟu-) + ‎-ஆன் (-āṉ) → ‎பண்ணுகிறான் (paṇṇukiṟāṉ, “He is doing”) becomes

  "பண்ணுறான் (paṇṇuṟāṉ)" (By surface analysis, பண்ணு (paṇṇu) +‎ -று- (-ṟu-) +‎ -ஆன் (-āṉ))

This varies depending on dialect, with some dialects shortening the marker more than others.
