-라니 • (-rani)

alternative form of -다니 (-dani), used in the environments where -라 (-ra) is required. In particular, always used after the stem of -이다 (-ida, “to be”, copula), whether present or elided, and its negative 아니다 (anida, “to not be”).
스폰지가 동물 이라니. ― Seuponji-ga dongmur-i-ra-ni. ― How can a sponge be an animal?

우리나라 가 일본 보다 큰 게 아니라니. ― Urinara-ga Ilbon-boda keun ge ani-ra-ni. ― Wow, Korea isn't bigger than Japan.

저 자그만 것 이 나무라니. ― Jeo jageuman geos-i namu-ra-ni. ― Wow, to think that such a little thing is a tree.
Used other than figuratively or idiomatically: see -라 (-ra),‎ -니 (-ni)— equivalent to 라 고 하 니 (-ra-go ha-ni).
