-crasy
English
Etymology
Ultimately from Ancient Greek κρᾶσις (krâsis, “mixing, tempering”), often via Latin -crāsia and, additionally, Old French -crasie.
Pronunciation
- (General American, Received Pronunciation) IPA(key): /-kɹəsi/
Suffix
-crasy
Usage notes
- Because -crasy and -cracy are homophones, and the former is comparatively much rarer, the two suffixes are often mistakenly conflated in the latter spelling, thus giving rise to such common misspellings as idiosyncracy.
