Many folk etymologies attempt to explain the origin of the name, such as Blend of ajá (“dog”) + ni (“is”) + mọ̀ (“to know”) + Ògún (“Ogun”), literally “It is the dog that knows Ògún”. Compare with Ìrèmògún, Ẹkímògún
