Bärn
Alemannic German
Etymology
Uncertain. Folk etymology connected it to Bär(in) (“bear”), but a Celtic origin is more likely, such as a connection to Verona or Proto-Celtic *berna (“cleft”), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰerH- (“to carve out, cut”).[1][2] More at Bern.
