Etymology
From bagong hasa (“something newly sharpened”). Originated in the municipality of Paete, Laguna, this surname is often the subject of ridicule because it seemingly contained the word gahasa (“rape”). Some bearers have shortened their surname to Basa or Bagonghasa.
