Etymology
Potentially attested as bonfurt and bonewirt in 825-842, attested with certainty as brunnenuurt in 944. Borrowed from West Frisian Boarnwert, derived in turn from a compound of Old Frisian brun (“source, small watercourse”) and uurt (“terp, artificial mound used for habitation”).
