From Medieval Latin calamaucum, a cap, originally made in camel hide, used in the Middle Ages by bishops and the Pope, from Ancient Greek καμελαύκιον (kamelaúkion), from Ancient Greek κάμηλος (kámēlos, “camel”).[1]
