A partial calque of Cantonese 重陽節 / 重阳节 (cung4 joeng4 zit3), from Chinese 重陽 / 重阳 (Chóngyáng, “Doubled Yang”), a traditional name for the date of its occurrence, the 9th day of the 9th month in the traditional Chinese lunisolar calendar.
