Etymology

First attested as CRUQUIUS (DE) in 1851. Named after the steam-powered pumphouse De Cruquius that was used to drain the Haarlemmermeer, which in turn was named after Nicholaas Samuelszoon Cruquius. Cruquius had latinised his surname Kruik.
