Dia do Saci
Portuguese
Etymology
Literally, “Saci Day”, based on the Saci from Brazilian folklore.
This commemorative date was originally proposed in 2003 as a Brazilian replacement for Halloween (and taking place on the same date as well).[1]
Proper noun
- A yearly celebration of Brazilian culture and folklore on October 31.
Usage notes
In Brazil, this celebration is sometimes associated with an opposition against Halloween, and more generally against American influence.[1]
