Etymology
From Vulgar Latin *fūriōn-, whence also Old French fuiron (“ferret, weasel”). Ultimately from Latin fūr (“thief”). Cognate with Limburgish fuur, vuurs (“polecat”). The forms Fürner, Für(d)er are extended with the suffix -er.
