Faeroae
Latin
Pronunciation
- (Classical Latin) IPA(key): [fae̯ˈroː.ae̯]
- (modern Italianate Ecclesiastical) IPA(key): [feˈrɔː.e]
Etymology 1
Probably an adaptation of Danish Færø. The -ae termination reflects the feminine gender of Old Norse Færeyjar and its descendants (common gender in Danish and Swedish owing to their loss of the masculine–feminine distinction).
