Etymology
From Studio Ghibli + -ify, itself derived from Italian ghibli (“a hot, dust-carrying desert wind in North Africa”). The trend originated in late March 2025 after OpenAI introduced 4o Image Generation, which allowed users to upload and edit their own images using ChatGPT.[1]
