gullinn (golden) +‎ tǫnn (tooth) +‎ -i (masculine nominal suffix). Cognate with Sanskrit हिरण्यदन्त (hiraṇyadanta​, Golden-toothed, epithet of Agni), which has been used to argue for Heimdallr’s role as a fire-god.
