Dutch
Etymology
Potentially attested as hanwurf [read: hanwurt] in 944, attested with certainty as hernawort in 1319. Derived from a compound of Old Frisian herna (“corner”) and wert (“artificial mound used for habitation”). The Dutch form of the toponym was borrowed from an older version of the Frisian name.
